How about using your pager?
Ever since reading "The Cuckoo's Egg", I've always wondered how Stoll
enabled his monitoring system to page him when an intrusion occurred.
There's this unmaintained HOWTO under mandrake 6.1 that describes
receiving mail, filtering it and reformatting the output for
forwarding to a pager. If I remember right, you are still paged
through a phone line.
Under my paging service, (Infopage), half the work is already done
since they have an email service all set-up for you. AFAIK, other
paging companies have this service too.
