Here's something I can't figure out...

My old hardware has been giving me problems lately and some bad hangs and disk
errors may have corrupted some of my data. In particular, I've noticed that
some of my system settings (Red Hat 6.2) have changed. These include such
settings as my PATH, non-existence of /etc/rc.d/killall file, loss of some files
that linuxconf looks for whe exiting (thus always giving me an error message),
xhost access permissions, and, recently, I got this error message while running
kpackage:

kpackage: Symbol `rpmHeaderFormats' has different size in shared object,
   consider re-linking

What in the world does that mean?

My guess is that those disk errors have messed up my systems setting sso my
question is: how does one restore the default settings for these variables?

God bless!
