hello. i'm thinking of getting an a7v with a 650mhz duron as a primary
mx server for our campus. i'm inclined to this setup due to several
reasons. i figured i don't need a pentium3 since it will only be a mail
server. i need a computer with a fast i/o subsystem and the a7v looked
good with its 200mhz fsb. i doubt if i'll ever need scsi for this, since
the motherboard sports an ultra100 controller. i figured i could get
away by concentrating on good and fast i/o. here are my intended specs:
asus a7v
duron 650mhz
256mb ram
7200 rpm ide disks
3com905b or c
thing is, i doubt if linux supports the ultra100. i was looking at the
linux hardware database, and the only thing i could find there was the
promise ultra66 controller. asus declares that the controller supports
ultra66 for backward compatibility, but does it behave like an ultra66
to the os? comments are most welcome. thanks.
vince.
