The sendmail default uses the same passwd and shadow of the OS for
authentication. Every unix account will be valid for every domain
you are hosting. I don't know if sendmail can be configured to use a
different authentication like LDAP but other MTA's like postfix or qmail
can be. You wouldn't also want to use passwd for authentication for a 50K
to 100K users as its a text file and it would slow things up. I suggest
you go with LDAP.
