I've been trying balsa (www.balsa.net). It's pretty OK except that the UI hangs while downloading huge messages (not multithreaded I guess). Quite stable, and it's GNOME compliant (e.g. it can read the system-wide MIME handlers so it can intelligently deal with attachments). Yes, Melissa for Linux comes ever closer.. Configuring an IMAP inbox is kinda non-straightforward though. All inbox configuration allows you is POP. But you can add an IMAP folder to your mailbox list, and use that as your inbox.. See ice.mozcom.com/user/orly/balsa.png (just 45K) for an example.
