Hi,
I have set up a dial-in server in my RH6.2 using mgetty/ppp. The client is a Win98
machine. I have enabled the AutoPPP function. The Win98 machine was able to connect
to the server, with the correct IP address, but it can't use the internet.
Furthermore, it can ping ONLY the server and nothing else. The Win98 machine, when
connected to the server, has the ff. info (winipcfg):
IP address - 192.168.0.69
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway - 192.168.0.69
[NOTE: not the actual ip addresses; the real ones are valid internet ip addresses]
The problem I see here is that the client uses itself as gateway. Also, the server's
netmask is 255.255.255.224, not 255.255.255.0. This is my /etc/ppp/options file:
-detach
auth
asyncmap 0
require-pap
refuse-chap
modem
crtscts
lock
nodefaultroute
proxyarp
192.168.0.67:192.168.0.69
netmask 255.255.255.224
ms-dns [dns server 1]
ms-dns [dns server 2]
If it's of any use, the dial-in server is also a DNS server (which I used in
dns-server 1).
How do I correct this problem? As much as possible, I don't want to configure the
Win98 TCP/IP properties; I want the server to do all the stuff for the client.
Thanks a lot.
