cisco got a good HOWTO on scalable network design. go to www.cisco.com
then "Technical Documents" then "Internetwork Design Guide"

I've got other documents (also from cisco) regarding network design, if
you'd like a copy, just ask :)

One thing, it doesn't mean that the design came from cisco documents you
have to use all cisco...
