I have the same on-board audio chip over here which is on an
MS-5187 Socket 7 motherboard. I got the sound working on RH 6.2
using drivers from "http://www.alsa-project.org/". RedHat RPMS
are available at:

You'll also need to add the following in "/etc/conf.modules", run
"depmod -a", run "/etc/rc.d/init.d/alsasound start", and unmute
your mixer channels with "alsamixer" or "aumix":

alias char-major-116 snd
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias snd-card-0 snd-card-via686a
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-via686a
