jack,

are the pppd options already configured? I'm assuming that the incoming
dialup port is at ttyS0 so there should be a /etc/ppp/options.ttyS0
containing this

192.168.0.1:192.168.0.254
netmask 255.255.255.255
proxyarp
crtscts
modem



where 192.168.0.1 is the server's ip and 192.168.0.254 is for the remote.
I've seen in your previous mails that pppd complains that it couldn't get
the ip addresses to start the session.
