you can do that by pointing your first mx record to the separate machine
where you wanted to and make your main server be the secondary mx, which
is optional if you dont want any secondary. say:

@           IN       A     192.168.0.4  ; ip of the separate machine.
mail        IN       A     192.168.0.4
    
            MX     10      virtual-domain.com. ; ip ur separate machine.
            MX     20      mainserver.domain.com ; optional
