I am an old sentimental fool, so I use the "classics":
1. Kernighan & Pike, "The Unix programming environment".
If you are lucky, you might find an old "Cacho Hermano"
local reprint of this book. However, you can also order
it from Amazon. The book is quick but comprehensive intro
to using Unix, programming the shell, and program development.
Remember that Linux is a "Unix" workalike.
2. "Unix for the impatient" (I forgot the author). The latest
edition has lots of material on Linux. This is a nice
tutorial on "Section 1" of the Unix manuals.
And for some advert:
3. AdmuLinuxGo-1.0 - this "use-from-CD" linux has the LDP, Howtos,
and mini-howtos on a single CD. Even if you do not boot with it,
you can use your browser to read the docs that you need from it.
