You have to tell majordomo where perl is, which is
usually /usr/bin/perl. You do this by modifying
one of the config files ( I forgot which one it is)
and indicating the path of perl.
When I build and install any piece of software,
I normally first READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. The instructions
are usually contained in one or more or the following
files: README*, INSTALL, or FAQ, and these may be in the
outermost directory of the source package, or burried
in one of the directories, usually the ./doc directory.
Gcc, for example, has the instructions in the ./install
directory.
In the specific case of majordomo, you have to read all
the instructions, and follow them strictly, specially
those that concern the majordomo user and the permissions
to the majordomo directory. Otherwise, it is very easy to
make a mistake.
The most important issue is where to put the majordomo
aliases. Do you put them in /etc/majordomo.aliases, modify
/etc/sendmail.cf to indicate this choice, and then when list
creation time comes, user 'root' touches /etc/majordomo.aliases,
and calls /usr/sbin/newaliases to create majordomo.aliases.db?
(user "majordomo" can't do this, since it has no write permission
in /etc). Or do you put them in $MAJORDOMO_HOME/majordomo.aliases
and get into permission problems when majordomo.aliases.db is
created since the mail system will not touch $MAJORDOMO_HOME?
