Is this for an ISP setup? I'm afraid LDAP (esp. openldap will not scale
well if you encounter lots of incoming SMTP traffic). LDAP uses a db
backend and no matter what the openldap site says regarding db vs. sql
server backends, the db solution will not scale properly when you barrage
it with hundreds of requests per second.
The best way for a highly scalable SMTP alias lookup solution is to use
the builtin mysql functionality of postfix, and force it to use a mysql
sql lookup when checking for aliases. I'm using this particular solution
for a big site with > 80000 users/aliases and it scales pretty well.
