FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PINOY LINUX COMMUNITY EXPERTS ESTABLISH TECH FORUM FOR BEGINNERS In an unprecedented move this week, the Philippine Linux Users Group [PLUG] established an online technical forum specifically catered to help individuals setup and maintain personal computers running the Linux operating system. Citing the perennial reason of the absence of institutional support for the popular operating system, a virtual "who's who" in the local linux and open source scene have banded together to establish a mailing list focused on helping interested industry professionals, academics, and tech-savvy individuals adopt Linux and open source in their respective environments. Each volunteer-expert is given a specific topic of responsibility to support. Although all experts may pitch in to help in any specific topic, the presence of specific topic assignments to each expert ensures that all questions are answered to the satisfaction of the asking individual. True to the nature of open source software, membership and registration to the mailing list is totally free of any charge. The resident experts are lending their talents pro-bono, in the hope that the open source and Linux solutions might be adopted and appreciated by more people. Throughout the eight years of its existence, PLUG has gathered a formidable membership of professionals coming from both the academe and industry. This fact allows it to cover a wide range of topics, namely: installation, networking, hardware compatibility, service deployment and maintenance, software development, office applications/solutions, software package managers, and server security. Comprising the lineup of experts are a mix-match of top notch professionals and academicians. Dr. Pablo Manalastas, William Yu, and Jess Emerson Uy from the Ateneo de Manila, Migs Paraz of Inter.Net, Mike Maravillo and Eric Rosel from Q-Linux Solutions, Froilan Mendoza from Tridel Technologies, Orly Andico from Mozcom, "fooler" from Sky Internet, Ian Sison from Q Software Research, Dennis Castillo from Infiniteinfo Phils, Paolo Carballo from SM, Dido Sevilla from UP Diliman, Eric Pareja and Jijo Sevilla from UP Manila, Logan Perens and Raul Ocampo Jr. of SuSE Phils, Cito Maramba, MD of the UP College of Medicine, Jeff Gutierrez of Mapua Online, and Ambrosio Berdijo, Jr. If you are interested in learning more about Linux and how you can use this free system, you are invited to join the discussions.
