What do you need RPM 4 for?
Anyway, you must at least have 3.0.5 (which can read rpm 4 databases), so
upgrade to that first (i think the mdk-7.1 updates have that) or grab a
.src.rpm from the mandrake 7.2 mirrors, recompile and then update your rpm
package.
You can then use rpm 3.0.5 to extract the package for rpm 4.0.x
