It's unnecessary to sync if you're unmounting. Unmounting a filesystem
automatically writes any buffers associated with the filesystem to
disk because all OS data structures concerning the file system are to be
freed. Of course a proper shutdown/reboot necessarily unmounts all
filesystems.
