It's installed by default under /usr/local. so your binaries are in /usr/local/sbin 
and not in /usr/sbin.
If you used the --prefix option when you compiled your bind package then your 
named.conf should be
in {prefix}/etc and you should have a dir {prefix}/var/run where your named.pid would 
be. 

TIP: BIND 9.1.0 doesnt allow your zone file to be without a TTL as compared to the 
previous
BIND which uses minTTL if TTL is missing.
