The whole brouhaha of RAID 10 vs RAID 0+1 isn't really noticeable
especially since (as the Server/Workstation Expert magazine column said) a
number of manufacturers don't know the difference and use these
interchangeably. The "RAID is in the Details" article was a real
eye-opener. It's interesting how there's a humongous difference between
RAID 0+1 (ie: what Promise uses) and RAID 10 (which 3Ware claims they
use).
After reading that article from SW Expert, I'm looking at implementing
RAID 10. RAID 5 doesn't look very attractive considering I'm only dealing
with four disks.

Would you have any heads up tips as far as how I fix my data layout to
optimize a 2(1+1)R10 <wink> setup? I'm planning to put my entire
installation in the array (versus having only data in the array and other
parts in a separate disk using the mobo's built-in controller), will how I
partition the "disk" affect performance? Or should the controller handle
this nicely? (I'm obviously new to RAID, please be patient.) :)

Not so high, which is why I'm building a setup myself. Most of the branded
server setups I've seen use SCSI which is an arm and a leg more expensive
than UltraATA (although for good reason). We have opted to build ourselves
a unit, which is why my father already bought the 3Ware controller in Hong
Kong. Now all I have to piece together is the rest of the system.
