Postfix delivers the mail via cyrus' delivery agent. Cyrus checks if the
user is in its authentication database. If the user is found, cyrus stores
the message for later retrieval.

mail on a non-exist account? help. ...

That's a tall order for a newbie.  Up to it?

First:

Cyrus imap has "limitation" in that it cannot accept '.' chars in the
username.  You have to patch this out if you want to use '.' in names.

Given that, you need to use the mysql authentication pwcheck for cyrus.
Look it up in freshmeat.

Compile cyrus imap (RPMS in redhat contrib site. Note that the mysql cyrus
supports only 1.5.x versions of cyrus.)

Then compile postfix. And configure on using postfix with cyrus.  HOWTOS
are included in the postfix package.

If you are using mandrake [7/8] postfix comes in stock.
