Is kannel and related software the way that sysops are getting messages
about system events while offsite?

I've been thinking of a couple applications which would produce a low
volume of messages which I would like to receive remotely. Are pagers
still the cheapest and most reliable way to do this?

I thought of using Quios and a script, but am concerned that it is a free
service so that there are issues of how long it will be arround and
whether they would appreciate people using their service in this way.

What are current low-cost things that others are doing to catch things
like tripwire alarms or thermometer in the computer room saying it's too
hot?

Thanks
