Actually, the statement in the article is contradictory, if you
consider "free" in the sense of freedom and the way the GNU project
uses it. I quote:
"But open source is not about free software. It is about giving people
the choice between proprietary and open source software," Cimafranca
said, stressing that open source solutions allow companies to build
homegrown applications, he added.
The philosophy of open source as the Open Source Initiative has nothing
to do with the freedom that this paragraph speaks of. It's
primarily concerned about getting things done, while the ideals of the
GNU Project and the FSF are concerned about the freedom to share and
change software, which is closer to what this excerpt says. True, open
source is not about Free (speech) software, but not in the way the
excerpt says.
