First the fast printer suggestion. This can get expensive
but you will need to buy just one printer for a network of
both Windows & Linux clients.

1. Get a HP 4100N printer. It has a built-in
10/100Mbps JetDirect card that allows Linux/Windows
to send print jobs at network speed (not the slow
   parallel cable speed).

24ppm uses a lot of paper..fast, make sure you get
   a 100-sheet and 500-sheet tray.

2. Get the Postscript option and an additional 32MB+ RAM
for the HP printer. I'm not sure about the Linux applications
you plan to use (Staroffice, etc) but most likely they
can output Postscript so you can send the print jobs
   directly to the HP.

3. Install SAMBA on your Linux machine and create an LPD
entry for the HP JetDirect. This effectively sets up a
print queue that other clients can use. The LPD queue
would then pass the print jobs to the HP printer. I've seen
this configuration handle 500MB+ print queues.
