I remember getting this when playing with my libnss and pam to support
LDAP lookups. Unfortunately the libnss package seemed to have issues with
getting the name information from my LDAP server. I haven't solved this
issue yet, and have indefinitely postponed research on migrating to
auth-ldap.
Perhaps you've got a similar problem?
