I'd recommend the Yamaha as the drive you mentioned has a feature which
is closest to BURNProof, which Yamaha calls WASTEProof. That feature
greatly helps eliminate buffer underruns in mastering CDs. A friend of
mine has already tried stretching it by doing filters in Photoshop while
recording the CD in the background with no effect to the CD at all. Burn
time did increase but the CD was intact. Couple that with 8MB Buffer
RAM, too.
You might also want to check out drives from Plextor, Sony, Lite-on,
BOA, and the like.
One advice I really can give is to stray away from drives sold by HP and
Creative. They sell rebadged drives -- they buy the mechanisms from
other manufacturers and sell them under their own name. Several owners
have expressed frustration over support from them.
