i think the root of most problems for PHP is the
register_globals option. PHP 4.0.6 now defaults to off for
this one, but most plug-in software like PHPNuke requires
it to be on.

I think you can fake the referer variable by telnetting
directly to port 80 and typing in the headers from there.
or you can make a perl script to do this for you
automatically.
