Does your setup work properly? I am not sure if ReiserFS, JFS, and XFS already
support mounting filesystems using their labels. I'm sure ext2 supports it. You
can define a label for filesystems that support it (I think this is done during
mkfs), and as long as mount and the filesystem work properly with labels, mount
a filesystem using this instead of its physical location via your /dev files.
It looks like RedHat 7.1 has decided to standardize on mounting filesystems
using labels instead of the /dev/hdxy links. Oh well...
