Singapore-MIT Alliance to Build One of Asia's Largest Linux Clusters
(Jul 6th, 15:00:53 )

"IBM Singapore today announced that two leading research organizations
-- the Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC) and the
Singapore-MIT Alliance (SMA) will build two Linux clusters using a
total of 100 IBM eServer xSeries servers. The system at SMA is
expected to be among the largest in Asia and students in both
Singapore and the United States will be allowed computing time on this
cluster to bolster their knowledge of Linux-based systems."

"The 70-server system at SMA, a global partnership in graduate
education between the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the
National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University
will be put to work on various graduate research projects. Students
from all three universities will be given access to its computing
power to solve various computationally intensive problems that require
sophisticated computer modeling. The ultimate goal of the alliance is
to train students in high performance computing techniques, increasing
the pool of highly trained Linux IT workers in Singapore."

"The second cluster, a 30-server Linux systems at IHPC will be used by
Singapore-based companies to develop improved business processes with
the ultimate goal of bringing better products to market more quickly
and cheaply."
