Title: Re: [plug] tape drives
the tape drive was supplied by ibm with the server... unfortunately, when ibm delivered the servers they *forgot* the tape drives and thus, delivered it late.

it is detected by rh 7.0 just as likot has suggested by "dmesg |more"

"(scsi0:0:6:0) Synchronous at 40.0 Mbyte/sec, offset 8.
Vendor: SEAGATE   Model: DAT    06240-XXX  Rev: 8110
Type:   Sequential-Access                  ANSI SCSI revision: 03
Vendor: SDR       Model: GEM200            Rev: 2
Type:   Processor                          ANSI SCSI revision: 02
"

it is scsi, but i can't find in anywhere in /dev/ what is used before in rh 6.1 was /dev/rst0 but there is none right now in rh7.0

what else do i need?

thanks.

is it safe to mount a TAPE DRIVE? aren't those serial devices? what I know
is, you just do

tar cvf /dev/st0 /directory/to/backup

in order to do a backup.. tar at least knows how to write to a tape drive
and can even span tapes. although you really should get BRU or Arkeia
Backup for any serious work.
