#I've been using this configuration directive and its been working for me
#ever since. Your syntax is correct. My error document is greater than 500
#bytes. You could make your error document more than 500 bytes. =)

I haven't followed the thread.. but the 0.5k byte issue with error files
is an IE issue. Try it with Mozilla, and see if it works.
