Maybe Cringely is right in the basic premise of his article that was
recently linked to on Slashdot just last Thursday
(http://www.pbs.org/cringely/pulpit/pulpit20010802.html). Some of the
conclusions the article comes up are IMHO wrong headed, but the
perception of Microsoft's way of developing software is highly
relevant. Security does not increase market share, ironically. The
lack of security does, because then you can make yet other products
that address the perceived need. Think about it, what is the
incentive for Microsoft to develop any real security into any of their
products? Nil. You're stuck with them whether their software sucks
or not, whether it actually does what you need to do or a poor
approximation thereof.

The best way will be to break this monopoly.
