A pirated VCD copy of "Exit Wounds" starring Steven Segal
won't run on my daughter's Philips FW-D5 CD/VCD/DVD player.
It runs on Windows Media Player, but 30 minutes into Disk2,
Media Player hangs and hangs Windows with it.
So, i decided to build Xine 0.5.1 for Linux. The build
went smoothly under AdmuLinux. Xine runs "Exit Wounds"
smoothly all the way to the end. When the movie is over,
a segmentation fault occurs, aborting the Xine program.
Of course Linux is still running even if Xine has already
segfaulted.
A pirated copy of "Princess Mononoke" hangs Media Player and
Windows with it, in the middle of Disk1. Xine for Linux
plays about 2/3 of Disk1 before segfaulting.
>From these two examples, I am tempted to conclude as follows:
1. Xine 0.5.1 is a little better the Media Player. Maybe,
Xine 1.0, when it comes, will be so much better.
2. Pirated VCDs are the best "torture tests" for VCD player
software.
3. Linux can be employed as a credible "entertainment center".
