Now that i was able to setup successfully our dialin
server to accommodate our telecommuting developers, i
had to set-up access for a small remote LAN via dialup
to our dialin server. I had this working nicely with a
linux box dialling up to our server and acting as
gateway to their LAN. One of the programmers on the
LAN requested that they have their own email access
and suggested fetchmail.

How does fetchmail fit into the picture?

------MAIN OFFICE ------
    | |
 ------ --------
| mail | | dialin |
 ------ --------
                    |ppp0
                    |
                    |
               ------------
              |linux dialup |
               -------------
                    |
         ------ REMOTE LAN -------

I dont understand what fetchmail's purpose will be.
With the current setup, they (remote) can now get/send
mail from our office mail server via imap/pop3
clients. Or I can also configure their linux dialup
server as mail server and use our office mail server
as relay host, all of which I can do (i think :). What
use will I have for fetchmail? Our programmer
"insists" fetchmail :) What do i miss in the setup?
Enlighten me please :)

thanks,
Mary Christie

PS. after all these, i intend to document this on more
readable specific-case dummy guide. There might be
some practicing newbies that are as confused as me
connecting all the dots in some existing howtos ;)
