my box at home (monster) has kernel image sizes in the 650k~ range.
only using 2.2.19pre17 with patches for ext3, lpp, udf, usb-visor,
NVidia, alsa, etc. etc. and it comes out at: 666,904 bytes. well, some
of those are modules, but still.
