OOOooopss! how did this happen? ;->
#_ Recently, I have been trying out RH6.2 (migrating from RH5.2) and in the
#_ fresh install, /etc/crontab looked like this:
#_
#_ # run-parts
#_ 01 * * * * root run-parts /etc/cron.hourly
#_ 02 4 * * * root run-parts /etc/cron.daily
#_ 22 4 * * 0 root run-parts /etc/cron.weekly
#_ 42 4 1 * * root run-parts /etc/cron.monthly
#_
#_ And everything was running fine, with no weird emails, when I added this line
#_ which was running ok in RH5.2's cron
#_
#_ */5 * * * * root /etc/ppp/ppp-check
#_
#_ I also started having similar emails, even for the "run-parts /etc/cron.xxx"
#_ entries like this:
#_
#_ /bin/bash: root: command not found
#_
#_ It seems that the "root" entry is being interpreted as a command entry.
#_ For now, the remedy is to delete the "root" part, and the said emails
#_ stopped coming ...
#_
#_ But it does not feel right. "run-parts /etc/cron.xxx" entries were ok
#_ before even with the "root" part, and it was ok with RH5.2's cron...
#_ perhaps something broke when the last line was added? Anyway I'll
#_ check in the docs if I have the time ...
#_
#_ --barny
crond cannot find the program/script "/etc/ppp/ppp-check". Look in /etc/ppp
if you have a file or script named ppp-check.
