It depends on what 2.96 you're using. If you're using the one that came with
RedHat 7.0, you're really good as dead. If you're using the one that came
with 7.1, that' just fine. It's almost as good as using GCC 3.x, though
people say 3.x is over-all much better, 2.96 that came with RedHat is quite
stable. In fact, my kernel is compiled with 2.96 and I've been compiling my
kernel (with XFS support) with it since last May, no problems so far.
