Microsoft Philippines gave a seminar intro on the .Net
initiative some Saturdays ago. they gave away copies
of WinXP Candidate release 1 to some of my classmates
who attended their conference (same license as
always). From what they say - WinXP is much of a
memory and hard disk space hog, though it had a nice
GUI (the major selling point of M$ "OS"). They did
bother to hide some blatant errors (unlike Office XP
where it M$ didn't really hiding it at all) though I
still need to "test" it (write a random input program
to test kernel stability - make it crash the ultimate
goal).
The side-utilities did go fine, they say (like Windows
Media Player). More remains to be seen if this CR-1
would be anything like the $299 "investment" to be
released this 25 of October. Anyway, I won't run a
monster "OS" for monster machines in mainstream -
anything that can't run in my remaining P90 machine.
btw - their new RAD tools do make development easier.
It's a shame M$ closed its solutions within their
platform.
