It honestly doesn't sound good. Why? Because I don't know how you intend
to get your mail to "native Eudora format". I know it's just a little
different from plain mbox. And even that makes me a little bit wary about
things. I've seen Eudora choke its mailboxes too often.

I recommend instead something like this:

1. Use Postfix or QMail and use Maildirs instead of mboxes.

2. Use Courier IMAP which is a great IMAP and POP3 server for Maildirs.

3. Use whatever client you want to access the IMAP server. It should be
fast! What's more you can experiment with encryption if your network is
not a "demiliratized zone".

4. Install some good web-based IMAP front-end. I personally use Horde IMP.
Some others swear by SquirrelMail or TWIG. Check them out and take your
pick. This has allowed us here in the office to make all computers (save
for a few) "bunk style". Which means you go to any computer, log on, do
whatever, log off. Plus it's free. All you need's a browser.

4. Go ahead and use Samba to centralize storage of other files. It's
pretty good, IMHO, considering it has to deal with so much yuckiness
inherent in the SMB protocol.
