That's exactly why I'm using ext2 on my /boot. Because it's one of the
most important partitions. Really, though, neither ReiserFS nor XFS will
live on a 5MB partition. Also, most bootdisks will support ext2. So I can
always access my /boot which will have my XFS-enabled kernel. :)
