PLUG members and officers,

***_(Please reply to this post in the plug-misc
mailing list)_***

I had a chance to talk with Ms. Llen Oyco from GO4-IT
(GOFOR-IT?),
a non-profit org. for government IT professionals who
is organizing
a one-day IT event for Linux on October 30, 2001 at
the New World Hotel
in Makati. From our discussion, their target audience
are government IT
professionals and introduce or make Linux more
familiar to them.

These are the scheduled talks (PC projector will be
provided):

MORNING (Non-tech)
9:30AM - Stepping into the Future of Open Source - 1
hr
10:30AM - Essentials for Understanding Linux Solutions
 - 1 hr

AFTERNOON (Technical)

Linux at Work - 1 hr
Open Source for the In-house Developer - 1 hr
Messaging Solutions - 1 hr (Speaker: Tom Curse - Int'l
Messaging
                            Association ?)

Based on these topics, I told her that they seem to be
broad and
general and that the afternoon topics can still be one
hour each
but broken down to 2 or 3 sub-topics (with 2 to 3
speakers) i.e.,
Linux at Work could be a presentation on Open Source
alternatives to
desktop word processing, spreadsheet, presentation
managers (StarOffice)
and existing Linux server solutions at work.

Anyway, they have tried contacting Redhat and Caldera
for speakers but
because of the aftermath NYC bombings, travel
restrictions nowadays
discourage trans-Pacific travels.

Ms. Llen Oyco is now looking for volunteers for
speakers for the
topics mentioned above except for the Linux Messaging
Solutions.
I guess their organization is not aware of the
existence of PLUG
or Linux organizations in the Philippines and I told
her about our
activities and how PLUG people organized the Linux10
event at APC last
time.

I asked permission from her if I can introduce this
activity
and Linux event to PLUG and the PLUG miscellaneous
mailing list
and she agreed. I also asked her to subscribe to
plug-misc
mailing list so she can follow-up any discussions,
volunteers, etc.
and told her how planning and commitment are being
done via
the various PLUG mailing lists.

Those interested in contacting Ms. Llen Oyco, her
contact number
is 628-0282, e-mail addresses at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

BTW, she is also willing for PLUG to have a booth
during the
event

This a chance for PLUG to advocate Linux to an
important sector
of computer users and introduce PLUG and our
activities to them. I'm
calling for volunteers and we can work out the details
via
the plug-misc mailing list.

Marvin, Migz, Ian, Horatio, Jess, Gino, Jijo, Dido,
Doc Mana, Dek,
Eric P. and Eric R., Orly, Fritz, Chris, Kelsey ...and
others I have
not mentioned...interested ?
