It's kinda expected. The new VM doesn't do quite too
well if used in a pure development environment. It
does quite some improvement when used otherwise (have
yet to try it on production server. Just tried
recompiling gcc-3.0.1 and glibc 2.2.4 using gcc 3.0.1
(2.4.10 kernel, Athlon, Debian Potato). Can't
understand why the bootstrap won't finish - the kernel
can't handle the paging requests and seg-faults. No
problems using 2.4.9, though. The old VM manages the
spawning of dynamic data better than new one when a
system-stressing process such as compiling is placed
as a standard for a resource-intensive job.

I'll cross my fingers until 2.4.11 or until Linus
comes up with a better VM that scales up just like the
old one Alan retains. I'm just impressed that the
Andrea's VM implementation deals swap usage better
than the old VM.
