A few months ago, I sent a message to this list explaining about an
effort being made in Argentina to make the government use free software.
We formed a working group for this ("proposicion",
http://www.grulic.org.ar/proposicion) 2 years ago. This year, we contacted
a congressmen interested in promoting a law proposal that says that the
State *must* use free software. Some of you might have read an article I
posted on Slashdot at that time, with a translation of the proposal (that
has changed a from that time until now)

Initially the proposal moved fast towwards approval, but presently, it is
stalled (since June/July), waiting for the approval of one member of the
government that seems not to be interested in promoting this law.
Meanwhile, we have been translating one of our main advocacy documents.
This document explains and give reasons to avoid using propietary
software in government information systems. You can find it at

(it's a multilanguage document. If you find that it's in a language you
don't find, reconfigure your browser, or force a language appending ".en"
or ".es" to the URL above).
I'm quite interested on feedback on that document, critiques,
corrections, comments, anything you want. We started this translation
project because we want this happening all over the world. I thought you
would be interested, being that FreeDevelopers is an important part of the
Free Software community,
