The search continues for web-based DNS management... This one looks good, though you'd need to learn mod_perl... I did, once. Got this from the BIND 9 mailing list.
----- Forwarded message from Chris Pile <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ----- Hi, I can't speak from experience since I haven't used Net::DNS/Apache::DNS in a production environment yet, but I do plan on doing so. My view is that Mike Fuhr's is just covering his butt with his warning. I'm guessing that he realises his module is extremely useful, but didn't want some big ISP/DNS solutions company using his code, finding a bug, then blaming him for writing buggy code. May not be true, but that's how I read it. Also I figure that the more ppl use the module, the more bugs will be found, reported then fixed, resulting in better and more reliable code. Looking at the release dates for the module, I'd be tempted to use the development version too. Also I recommend you take a look at: http://www.dnszone.org/. This uses Net::DNS and provides a good management web interface to BIND. You'll notice in the README it states: "As mentioned in the Dynamic Updates section, I recommend that you exercise caution when using Net::DNS to maintain a production nameserver via dynamic updates. Always test your code *thoroughly*. The Net::DNS author accepts no blame if you corrupt your zone. That warning in place, I'm aware of at least one large company that has used Net::DNS to make hundreds of dynamic updates per day for nearly three years without any problems. If you find a bug, please report it....." Thanks, Chris. ---- F Charlene Watson wrote: > > Hello, > > Trying to get a feel for Net::DNS usage with BIND 9 for dynamic updates. > It has been recommended to me by some reputable folks and I was wondering how > many are actually using it in a production environment.
