Because if you have a medium to large software development > project and you choose to use _assembly language_, it may pretty much take > you _forever_ to finish it. i think what jerome means is that, no matter what, assembly will stay forever because probably C or Pascal will repalce by another much improve programming language in the future created by assembly language. regarding to time development, thats true it takes time to finish it especially if you are starting to write code from scratch (without ready made procedures and functions) and besides, the existence and definition of a *high level language* is to provide rapid application development and getting away directly to communicate with the hardwares and a *low level language* is the vice-versa of this. despite of the fact that high level language will increase your productivity but borland engineers still use their traditional and favorite assembly language to create their high level languages such as C, Pascal, Delphi, Java, etc. i remember the time when they released Turbo Pascal Version 6, this released version was created thru using turbo pascal version 5 and not assembly language. so what happened? its too damn slow.. until they released version 7 as fast as they could that created from assembly language and youll amazingly notice the speed difference. fooler. _ Philippine Linux Users Group.
