hey guys. i have here with me compiled recipes from my wife and her
mother which are in hard copy form. i initially planned to just type
them in plain text format but after entering two recipes it occured to
me that there will be repeating patterns (like title, ingredients,
procedure). so i looked at wordprocessing and thought of creating
macros for the section that occurs often. like a mail merge. then i
thought that it could be further improved by creating a database.

and that's where i'm at right now. i think of using postgresql as this
is the one that comes with the debian potato CDs (the mysql server is
not included in the CDs). now my question is how do i design the
database schema? i looked at it and it seems that almost all entries,
except the procedure, can be use as keys. i'm no dba and the only
database experience i had was with dBase II of the apple days. any
suggestions, comments, rants, are welcome.

and please Cc me with your replies as i have stopped mailing lists
coming to my inbox for technical reasons which i'm still working at.

thanks.
