This is so cool. Why? Because I'm already comfortable with BIND as my
content DNS server (although I'm not discounting the possibility of using
djbdns 100% sometime in the future when I have more time to play with it
and migrate this mugger). What's more, I've nailed the bugger. And I think
you've nailed it too. It's BIND as a resolving proxy DNS server that's
killing me. The only reason life still works is probably because of the
preemptible kernel I'm using (thanks rml).

How am I so sure it's not syslog? I fired up IPTraf and suddenly life
slowed down. But not slow enough for me not to be able to shift to
/dev/vc/9. And there I saw nothing. Which means BIND wasn't hitting any
lame servers. So it's not the lame servers that's an issue. BIND just hogs
the system. And this is a Pentium III 733MHz with 512MB RAM that wasn't
doing much else ... except for trying to resolve all those names because
of IPTraf.

So I should figure out how to package djbdns using the source package
that's available for Debian. Then I'll play around with it and use it as
at least my resolving proxy DNS server, then later on hopefully as my
content DNS server as well.

But, I MUST study for Math 130 first. Last final exam tomorrow (no, that's
NOT redundant, hehehe). Gotta make it good.

No time to read this now, but thanks anyway. And I'm not very baffled with
resolving proxy server versus content server, and I know why they should
be separated. Similar reason why I don't use Apache for my proxy server.
Hehehe. The thing is, I assumed that BINDv9, while one package, separated
the two. Man, was I wrong. :(

Gotta djbdns ... NOW!

Pero aral muna. I'll let you know when I've done the leap. Two steps
shouldn't kill me. ;>

Now to 'apt-get djbdns-installer'. Or maybe 'apt-get source
djbdns-installer' so I can hack it first to get around its dependency on
gcc-2.95 which I don't have installer anymore. Hahaha. :)

Thanks Dek. With the grace of God I will soon be a fellow djbdns zealot.
Sa Postfix vs qmail na lang tayo magkakatalo. But I'm sure you will agree
with me that Postfix vs qmail is not as easy a battle to figure out which
is better, as compared with BIND vs djbdns which seems to be trivial.
Hehehe. (And my server ain't even loaded).
