Blowing everyone's bubble here, it is unfortunate that this effort does not contribute in any way to open source software, as by the very nature of the contract, 'defense', all of this would be top secret.
What _is_ nice is that more people will be in the know of how to develop stuff the GNU way, and maybe, just maybe contribute back to open source projects someday in the future.
