i guess you have to buy a firewall, or better yet configure one linux box that will act as one.

You can try Engarde Secure Linux distro. There are other secure distros such as Trustix whose design has security first in mind. They ship with less packages. No X Window server and apps, for instance, since they're not needed on most servers. No services enabled by default. And so on.
