I already explained this TWICE at a PLUG meeting, and to Doc Mana in
Singapore.
There are technical reasons that make it difficult to deploy a Linux
version, mostly multimedia and security related. But the main reason
Edsamail does not have a Linux version is that we simply don't have the
resources to support it. It takes a team of around 20 experienced
developers and around 6 graphic designers, plus project managers and
marketing, to develop and maintain just the Windows version. It just
does not make good business sense to allocate precious developer
resources to build a version only a handful of people will use.
We actually had a PalmOS version (developed on a Palm IIIc, so it's in
color!) that was developed a couple of months after the v1.1 launch. We
don't have the resources to support and maintain that either, so it's
been shelved.
