hi,

install linux in text mode and use fdisk to partition your harddisk. tweak 
the hd geometry by increasing the cylinder count while maintaining the head 
and sector counts. this is to make sure you can still boot the system with 
the original geometry detected by your bios while being able to use the whole 
capacity once linux is loaded.

when installing nt4, use the ide driver from sp4. that will allow you to go 
beyond 8gb.
