I'm really not in agreement with Miguel de Icaza pushing for Ximian's Mono
Project nor with the FSF's blessing of DotGNU. That in itself confirms, though
not too apparently, that Microsoft's initiative is to become another standard in
web development. It's like giving subtle approval to make a monopolist's
initiative the next standard for everyone to work on. Well, even the underlying
rules behind Microsoft's .NET initiative is still not so clear (with their
bastardization of the free and open source movement - "shared-source" which is
still in a lot of smoke), so there's no assurance that Microsoft won't assert
its copyrights on .NET and exclude open source developers and the open source
development model with it.

Sure the Microsoft initiative might prove good... but then again we must mind
what Microsoft's ulterior motives are... it's already damned obvious that
they want to milk more cash cows with .NET. Let's not also forget that .NET is
just a copy of Sun's ONE, which started way too long ago with the release of
Java - at least Sun, though also a proprietary solutions company, gives support
to Linux and the free and open source software movements. They're at least
trying to open up to more platforms. Microsoft, on the other hand, wishes to
close the world more to their own platform alone.
